Welcome to ‘The Book Blogger Hop’ originally hosted by Jen @ Crazy for Books
The ‘Book Blogger Hop’ has a new question every week that every blog participating must answer. This week’s question is:
What is your favourite post/ book review in the past three months?
Hmm, this is a tricky one. I’m not very good at judging what is my best post so far. But the one I enjoyed writing was ‘Character Connection | What’s Your Character Crush?’. Character Connection is a meme hosted by Jen over on the IntrovertedReader. It was such a fun idea, and since I was reading Hunter S. Thompson at the time I thought I’d give it a go. Coincidentally my review of Fear and Loathing also turned out to be the best one I’d done so far. It was an inspired post. I suppose I have Hunter to thank for that! His craziness just sort of rubs off on you.
That reminds me, I have to get back to following this meme. I had too much fun with it! Thanks Jen!
I hope you enjoy reading it. I’m off to check out some other fabulous posts by fellow hoppers.

Came across your blog via the hop. I’ve been lucky today, finding book bloggers like you that are reading books in common with me. Nice to “meet” you :o)

Hi Teacher/ Learner. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. I’m glad that we have something in common. I also had the same experience this week when I came across lots of bloggers suddenly reading ‘Madame Bovary’. I look forward to reading about your reading list 🙂

I can see why you chose your Character Crush post as your favorite. You’re writing is so full of delicious abandon and honesty, and I absolutely understand being drawn to crazy, weird, or dysfunctional characters: they’re the ones who make stories interesting. Who wants normal in a book? Or even, sometimes, in life? You’ve also once again set my mouth watering to read “Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas.”
As for me, my biggest character crush is Almásy in the English Patient. I tend to fall for the tragic romantic figure, and he’s the ultimate. A self-deluded, amoral, intellectual wanderer and explorer who can’t commit to anything, even a nationality… yet who is completely obsessed with the love of one woman. In real life it’s not so fun to fall for guys like this, but in fiction, it hurts so good. And whose ego doesn’t occasionally crave someone sexy to become obsessed with them? I’m the only one? Really?

Hi Cara! Right on. Normal is boring. Crazy is exciting! The same goes for life that’s for sure. It took me 3 years to get round to reading ‘Fear and Loathing’ but it was worth it.
Ahh, I actually snagged a copy of ‘English Patient’ last month. I wasn’t going to buy it, but then I thought of our conversation on goodreads and thought ‘what the heck! what’s there to wait for?’ Almasy is such a romantic name. I get crushes for characters like that all the time. You’re definitely NOT the only one. I really must finish my pile and get onto this one FAST. I’m dying to find out what it’s like!

I know what you mean about finishing your “pile.” I swear mine taunts me whenever I walk by, not to mention the invisible pile stored in my Kindle. Right now, I’m reading “Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives” and loving it. In these short stories, neuroscientist David Eagleman imagines different scenarios for the afterlife. Some are funny, some thought-provoking, and others just plain weird. Dig this: “In the afterlife you relive all your experiences, but this time with the events reshuffled into a new order…” or “The afterlife is all about softness. You find yourself in a great padded compound.” or “In the afterlife, you discover that your Creator is a species of small, dim-witted, obtuse creatures.” It’s difficult to stop reading them long enough to reflect on them.

That is incredibly cool writing. Very profound in a sense. Makes me wonder whether I’m living the real ‘life’ or the ‘afterlife’ version of my events.
Reminds me of that the Chinese philosopher who dreamed of a butterfly then awoke to wonder if it was he who dreamed the butterfly, or if he was the butterfly in the dream. Great stuff!
